Thanks to all the committee members, volunteers and parents who support our
Scouts. The outings, rank advancements and merit badges would not be
possible without you.

Welcome to our four new Scouts. Troop guides BJ and Joe L will be working
with them on Scout advancements.

No meeting on Dec 26. Everyone have a fun and safe holiday. Great time to
be working on the Family Life merit badge since you will be surrounded by
family and can hold family meetings during long car trips. The Personal
Management merit badge deals with financial awareness and planning. One
requirement involves comparison shopping and marketing awareness.

Parent meeting for the U.S.S. Alabama trip at 6 p.m. Jan 2. Regular troop
meeting at 7 p.m. Dr. Peters will be there for anyone who needs the
disability awareness merit badge signed off on. Review the work sheets and
bring your blue card. Mr. Drensek is ready to work with any Scout who needs
his Personal Management or Personal Fitness merit badge.

2012 will be the year of the Eagle as BSA celebrates 100 years since the
Eagle Rank was first awarded. The special patch resembles the 100 year
Eagle patch.

There is a free android app called the Dutch Oven Calculator. It allows you
to calculate the number of charcoals needed based on the size of the pot,
etc.

The new kayaking merit badge and the search and rescue merit badges come out
in spring. For a complete listing of current merit badges, go to
www.meritbadge.com . If you see one of interest, run off the work sheet and
let me know so I can find a merit badge counselor.

SPL Ben P will be changing out leadership with Pete S as soon as Ben has
enough time in office. Pete is interviewing staff so if you need a position
for advancement, see Pete.

Next outing will be leave for Mobile at 6:30 a.m., Jan 21 and return Jan 22
with an overnight stay on the U.S.S. Alabama. If you signed up as a Cub
Scout, you are still on the list for Troop 96.
