The planning session for the upcoming year will be held Saturday,
January 9, Epworth Methodist Church starting at 8 a.m. (weather
permitting). Input on activities and planned outings can be made by
contacting Ben S, Senior Patrol Leader, Mrs. Breeden or postings on the
website. Attendance is mandatory for all Scouts holding positions
(quartermaster, librarian, etc) including patrol leaders. First item of
business Saturday will be sealing tents because they need to be
waterproof for the next outing.
Thanks to Dennis Rideout for showing the Scouts the ropes Monday night.
As part of the pioneering theme, they learned the back splice, splicing
and the eye splice. Levi and Micah are working up the details for the
pioneering weekend scheduled for Jan 22-24 at the Hicks. Permission
slips are due by January 18. The troop will be eating as one group with
costs split between the number of Scouts attending. The Scouts are
working on the menu.
If it rains or snows, the campout may be postponed because the road is
inaccessible. Scouts are also reminded to wear bright colors because
hunting season is still going on. No one is supposed to be hunting on
the Hicks’ property that weekend, but we would rather be safe.
The first camp installment of $90 is due January 11.
The next outing will be the wilderness survival weekend set for February
19-21, Camp Westmoreland. The events will include shelter building,
orienteering, and survival.
Camporee has been set for April 30 - May 2, Camp Westmoreland.
As part of the Hayes Preserve Earth Day, Troop 96 has been setting up a
Leave No Trace campsite. This provides an opportunity for the new
Scouts to camp and earn service hours helping set up and clean up. We
are invited back to the celebration on April 17.
If anyone needs to be deleted from the email list or has an address change,
please let Mrs Breeden know.
