Hike Ratings General Note: Saturday outings may take all day and last into early evening. The Sierra Club encourages carpooling to save fuel, but please be prepared to drive your own car on club outings. Easy-Less than 5 miles, no serious elevation changes, no trail obstacles. Moderate-5 to 10 miles, some elevation changes or rough trail (rock hopping), or trail obstacles such as creek crossings. Strenuous- Over 10 miles, substantial elevation change (1000 ft or more), trail may be rocky, obstructed or nonexistent. Exploratory - any event where the leader has not experienced the event, may fit any class above.

Saturday, 30 Jan – Fagan Spring Hike. Moderate. Meet at Cleermont Trail Head at 9:00am for a hike on the Wild Flower Trail at the Land Trust. Hike is 1/2 day or less to see geology, Fagan Spring, and get in shape for the Spring hiking season. Bring water and sturdy hiking boots.  Call Doug Horacek at 772-6788 for more information.

Saturday, 30 Jan - The Ups and Downs of Guntersville State Park.  Moderate.  8 miles.  Enjoy views of the lake while getting a good work-out on this series of trails.  Meet at the gas station by Wal-Mart (11610 S. Memorial Parkway, Huntsville) at 8:30am. Bring good hiking shoes (the trails can be slippery), a walking stick, snacks, lunch, and water.   Contact Sandy Kiplinger, sandykip@juno.com.

Tuesday, 2 Feb, 6:00pm - Downtown Evening Hike. Easy. Meet in Land Trust parking lot at 907 Franklin St. Michael Stewart, 656-5836

Sunday, 7 Feb - Hayes Preserve Hike. Easy. This brisk walk will traverse the trails and greenway in the area. Join us for some exercise and enjoy the outdoors. Tuesday, 9 Feb , 6:00pm - Downtown Evening Hike. Easy. Meet in Land Trust parking lot at 907 Franklin St. Nancy Dudney, 882-9408

Saturday, 13 Feb– Fiery Gizzard hike. Strenuous.  Perhaps one of the most diverse and beautiful trails in Tennessee, the terrain is steep and extremely rocky.  We will follow the Fiery Gizzard, passing the 500-year-old hemlock, Blue Hole Falls, Sycamore Falls, and the Fruit Bowl rock formation, before beginning our arduous climb to Raven Point, a spectacular overlook, and return via the Doghole Trail.  The hike is about ten miles and definitely strenuous.  Bring lunch and water and we will dine afterwards at a local restaurant.  Meet at 8:00am at the Publix on Winchester Road. Saturday, 30 Feb - Keith Trail hike.  Moderate.  Stone Cuts, Logan Point Super Cuts, and the Sinks trail twice. Meet at 10:00am at the Hikers parking lot across from the Rangers Station at Monte Sano State Park. Bring snack, water, sturdy hiking boots, and come for a day of fun and adventure.
