Memorial for Dr Adriel D. Johnson, Sr

Posted: February 23rd, 2010 under Announcement.

As most of you all now by now, Scouting lost one of its very own during the tragedy at the University of Alabama in Huntsville earlier this month. Dr Adriel D. Johnson, Sr was an Assistant Scoutmaster at Troop 102 at First Missionary Baptist Church in Huntsville, a recipient of the District Award of Merit, the Silver Beaver, and the Whitney M. Young, Jr awards. He was an Eagle Scout and a Lifetime member of the National Eagle Scout Association (NESA). His eldest son, Adriel, Jr (AD) was also an Eagle Scout, and his younger son, Jeriel, was completing the final requirements for his Eagle award. As an Associate Professor of Biology he used his knowledge to teach Scouts at Day Camp about nature and science by dressing a skeleton in a scout shirt, cap, and sunglasses following that age-old Scouting adage…make learning fun. He was also a active member of ScoutReach’s Urban Emphasis Scout Leaders Council (UESLC) bringing Scouting values to urban and rural disadvantaged youth.

Consequently the members of the Urban Emphasis Scout Leaders Council have initiated a monetary tribute to be presented to the Greater Alabama Council of the Boy Scouts of America as a memorial on behalf of Dr. Adriel D. Johnson, Sr. Contributions may be made payable to the “UESLC” and dropped off at the Huntsville or Birmingham Scout offices (you may put “Dr Adriel Johnson” in the note section of the check), or you may mail your contributions to BSA, 2211 Drake Ave, Huntsville, AL 35805.
